Kai 9000 is an open-source personal AI assistant that can turn responses into interactive screens, including quizzes, recipe cards and dashboards. It's for people who want an assistant that remembers their preferences and can act through tools, with apps for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Linux and the web.

Gemma 4 E2B and E4B run fully offline on Android and desktop without an API key. In this mode, inference stays on your device. You can also connect to your own Ollama or LM Studio server through an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Cloud options include OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, DeepSeek, Groq, Mistral and xAI. Hosted services process requests remotely, and Kai can fall back to another provider when one fails. Conversations stay encrypted in local storage.

Persistent memory carries facts and preferences across conversations, so you don't have to repeat the same context each time. An editable system prompt lets you set the assistant's tone and behavior. Background checks review memories, pending tasks and emails, then notify you when something needs attention.

Kai can search the web, create calendar events, set alarms and execute shell commands. MCP support connects it to external tools for documentation, finance data, weather and other services. On Android, an Alpine Linux sandbox lets the assistant run Python scripts and process data inside the app without access to the host system.

The interface also accepts image attachments, reads responses aloud and renders LaTeX math directly on the device. Kai 9000 uses the Apache 2.0 license.
