OpenSearch

OpenSearch combines document and enterprise search with vector retrieval for AI applications. It's for developers building search into their products and teams analyzing application logs, infrastructure performance, or security events. The suite uses the Apache 2.0 license throughout, including its data ingestion and dashboard components.

Its search engine is built on Apache Lucene and supports distributed workloads through a REST API. Alongside document search, the Vector Engine provides a database for machine learning and generative AI applications. Search relevance tools help teams refine results, while anomaly detection helps identify unusual patterns in their data.

The surrounding tools cover data preparation and analysis. Data Prepper is a server-side collector that enriches, transforms, and aggregates data before analysis. OpenSearch Dashboards lets users query and explore data visually. Language clients connect applications to the engine, and OpenSearch Benchmark measures cluster performance across workloads.

Observability capabilities include log analytics and performance monitoring. Security analytics adds threat intelligence and event correlation for detecting and investigating threats. Teams can use the same suite for application search and operational analysis, with integrated tools for ingesting data and inspecting results.

OpenSearch is a vendor-neutral Linux Foundation project. Its codebase includes Apache-licensed Elasticsearch code.
