PDF Editor Offline
A free, open-source PDF editor that works offline on Windows, macOS and Linux, with permanent redaction and certificate-backed signing.

PDF Editor Offline helps people edit and prepare sensitive documents on their own computer. It works offline without an account, and desktop and source modes process documents on the device without uploads or document telemetry.
- Redaction and cleanup: Permanently remove sensitive text from a separate exported copy, check the result, and inspect or remove metadata, attachments, links, annotations and form data.
- Editing and signing: Add text, images and annotations, fill standard PDF forms, and sign with a typed, drawn, image or certificate-backed signature.
- Page organization: Merge, split, reorder, rotate, crop and compress PDFs, or remove blank pages.
- Conversion and OCR: Convert between PDF and formats including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, images, Markdown, text, EPUB and SVG, export PDF/A, and use local OCR to make scans searchable.
- Automation: Use the CLI, Python API or FastAPI to include document processing in other workflows.
The app is free and open source under the MIT license. A local web app is available from source; Docker and self-hosted deployments process documents on the chosen server rather than necessarily on the browser device. High-risk edits preserve the original and create recovery checkpoints, while verification reports distinguish passed, failed and unavailable checks.
Complex fonts and layouts can lose fidelity, XFA forms are inspect-only, and editing can invalidate existing digital signatures. OCR, LibreOffice conversions and Ghostscript operations require optional local tools.
