ReadAny is an AI e-book reader for people who want to question a book, find an idea they remember imperfectly and keep notes alongside their reading. It combines a personal library with answers tied to book passages.
- Book chat: Ask for explanations, summaries or translations using your reading position, selected text and chapter context, with answers that can point to source passages.
- Semantic search: Find concepts by meaning as well as keywords using local embeddings and a local vector store.
- Highlights and notes: Annotate books, write Markdown notes and export them to Obsidian, Notion or plain Markdown.
- Audio reading: Edge TTS reads books aloud with adjustable speed and background playback, while heatmaps and charts track reading habits.
- Device sync: Optional WebDAV, S3 and LAN sync carry your library, reading progress and annotations between devices.
Books, annotations and reading data stay on your device unless you choose to sync them. Reading and local search are offline-capable. AI chat can use Ollama or OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek and custom OpenAI-compatible APIs; cloud-backed chat sends requests to the chosen provider.
ReadAny runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. It supports EPUB, PDF, MOBI, AZW, AZW3, FB2, FBZ and CBZ. It's free and open source under GPL-3.0, with app store distributions that may be paid.
