Guanzhong Wang of Baidu explains PaddleDetection and the PP-YOLO series in this talk uploaded on October 11, 2022. He cites PaddlePaddle 2.3 and PaddleDetection 2.5; the presentation describes those releases and model results in its 2022 context.
PaddleDetection is presented as an object detection development toolkit built on PaddlePaddle, an open source deep learning framework. Wang describes a workflow covering data augmentation, training, model compression and deployment. Its modular design separates components such as the backbone, neck and loss so developers can try different configurations. Examples include pedestrian tracking, behavior detection and vehicle recognition.
The model discussion compares PP-YOLO, PP-YOLOv2 and PP-YOLOe. Wang describes the first two as accuracy improvements built on YOLOv3, while PP-YOLOe adopts an anchor-free design and configurable S, M, L and X scales. He reports COCO accuracy and Tesla V100 inference results for PP-YOLOe. These are the speaker's benchmark results, not a speed guarantee for other hardware.
The technical sections explain architecture changes, label assignment and detection losses. Wang also describes PP-YOLOe Plus work on preprocessing, postprocessing and pretraining with Objects365, reporting gains of up to 2.4 mAP over PP-YOLOe. This is an architecture overview and model comparison rather than an installation walkthrough.
