LibreTranslate is a self-hosted machine translation API for developers and organizations that want to run translation on their own servers. It's free to download and can work offline. The project is open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0).
It translates text and files, and it can detect the source language automatically. The web interface lets people translate directly, while the API lets software request translations. Supported languages include English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Ukrainian and many others. You can choose a source language when you know it or use automatic detection when you don't.
LibreTranslate uses the open source Argos Translate engine, so a self-hosted server doesn't need Google or Azure to perform translations. That makes it an option for teams that need translation without sending requests to a proprietary translation provider. The LibreTranslate website also provides a hosted translation service; requests sent there go to that service rather than your own server. With a self-hosted deployment, translation runs on infrastructure you control.
