LiveAgent is a desktop AI agent for people who want an assistant that can work on files and run commands on their own computer. It runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, and the desktop app doesn't require a separate server. It's open source under the MIT license.
The client supports Claude, Codex and Gemini protocols, plus compatible services through custom API addresses. Local execution covers the agent's tools: it can search, read, edit and delete files, run Bash commands, and supervise ongoing processes such as development servers. API keys stay in desktop-side storage. Model access uses the provider or compatible service you connect.
For coding work, LiveAgent can delegate tasks to parallel sub-agents in separate Git worktrees and merge their changes automatically. MCP support connects external tools, while Skills packages add reusable capabilities and load as needed. Persistent memory uses Markdown and searchable SQLite storage across sessions. Background schedules can run commands, HTTP requests or agent prompts, and saved conversation history with summaries helps retain context during long chats.
An optional self-hosted Gateway, available through Docker, lets you control the desktop agent from a browser. The agent and its file operations remain on your computer; the Gateway relays communication without accessing the filesystem or storing model credentials. It can recover from short connection interruptions. The chat interface displays formatted Markdown, mathematical notation, Mermaid diagrams and code previews.
