next-wiki is a self-hosted wiki for people and teams who want AI-assisted knowledge management with a record of where information came from. It keeps original sources separate from AI-written material and reviewed pages, so an assistant's synthesis remains traceable to its evidence. It's open source under Apache 2.0 and runs as a browser app on your own Docker host with PostgreSQL.

The Markdown editor supports code, math, Mermaid diagrams and images. Pages have drafts, publication controls and revision comparisons, while backlinks and tags help readers find related material. AI is optional: editing, search, reading and export work without a model connection.

Wiki chat combines keyword and semantic search and shows citations. AI can draft pages, improve text, generate images and translate content. Its editing tools follow user permissions, and proposed changes can require admin review before they're applied. An evidence-focused mode preserves original files such as PDFs alongside extracted text, with separate visibility controls for sources and generated content.

AI connections include Anthropic, OpenRouter and custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints. The wiki runs on your server; using a cloud AI provider sends requests to that service. MCP connects it to Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode and OpenClaw, and dedicated adapters support Hermes and OpenClaw agent memory.

Content can live in PostgreSQL, the local filesystem or S3-compatible storage. Markdown and ZIP exports preserve published content and assets; Git synchronization keeps a one-way copy of published pages.
