NoteDiscovery is a note-taking app for personal wikis, technical notes and small teams that want to keep their knowledge base on their own computer or server. It stores notes as ordinary Markdown files, so you can bring in an Obsidian vault or use the same files in other editors.

  • AI note management: Its built-in MCP server lets compatible assistants such as Claude Desktop and Cursor search, create, edit and organize notes; an Ollama and Open WebUI stack supports a fully local AI setup.
  • Connected notes: Wikilinks and an interactive graph show relationships between notes, while search, tag filters and favorites help you find material.
  • Technical writing: The editor supports live Markdown preview, LaTeX equations, Mermaid diagrams and code highlighting, plus browser sketches saved as PNG files alongside notes.
  • Templates and sharing: Custom templates support recurring notes such as meetings and journals, and you can share selected notes through public links or standalone HTML exports.

It's free and open source under MIT, runs on Linux, macOS and Windows, and supports Docker. The browser interface works on desktop and mobile. The note app works offline, including on air-gapped networks, and requires no account. It has no telemetry or cloud sync; files stay on the server you choose. PikaPods provides an optional hosted deployment. Password protection is optional and disabled by default.
