Soul-of-Waifu is a free, open-source Windows app for people who want AI characters with a shared identity across conversations, roleplay campaigns and a desktop companion. A character's personality and memories carry between these modes, so a campaign and a casual chat can draw on the same history.
Each character keeps a personal diary and a relationship profile that adapts its behavior to past interactions. The memory system tracks mood and shared events, corrects contradictions and merges duplicate memories. Text and voice chat support Live2D and VRM avatars, lip sync and voice cloning. Lorebooks supply story context, and the app imports PNG and JSON character cards.
Soul Stage adds an AI Game Master for group text RPGs, with dice rolls, inventory, world state and hidden story arcs. Soul Companion places an avatar on your desktop that can read the screen and clipboard, start conversations and use tools. Its desktop agent can control the mouse and keyboard, browse the web, run code and organize files, with an on-screen approval system for risky actions. Python plugins and MCP servers extend its abilities.
Local LLM use runs through a built-in llama.cpp server with GGUF models and NVIDIA, AMD and Intel acceleration. Chats can stay entirely offline on your PC without an account; optional cloud APIs include Claude, OpenAI and Gemini, while web tools require internet access. The app uses the GPL-3.0 license and requires 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and 16 GB RAM, with 32 GB recommended. An NVIDIA or AMD GPU is highly recommended.

Miko is an AI companion for Windows that pairs local conversation models with an animated 3D character on your desktop. It's for people who want spoken conversations with a customizable avatar. The Unity avatar moves its lips with speech, blinks and performs gestures in a transparent overlay that lets clicks pass through to other applications. You can replace the character with your own VRM model.
Open-LLM-VTuber is a local AI companion for people who want a character they can talk to, with a Live2D avatar that responds through speech and expressions. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux through web and desktop clients. With local models for speech and language processing, it works fully offline and keeps conversations on your device. Cloud APIs are optional alternatives that send the corresponding processing to external services.
Voxta is an AI companion for people who want a character they can talk to, give work to or use in interactive stories. You choose its personality, voice and optional avatar. The proprietary local-server edition has a browser interface, and AI processing can run entirely on your hardware, through Voxta Cloud or across a mix of local and cloud services.
Amica is a locally runnable interface for talking with customizable 3D AI characters. It's for people who want an animated, voiced character as the face of their AI assistant, with a choice of local LLM backends or cloud services. The project builds on Pixiv's ChatVRM.
AIRI is a self-hosted AI companion for people who want a virtual character they can talk to and play games with. Inspired by Neuro-sama, it combines real-time voice conversation with game integrations for Minecraft and Factorio. The project is in early development; Factorio support is a work in progress with a proof of concept. It's open source under the MIT license.
