Vellium

Desktop AI workbench for macOS, Windows and Linux. Connect local models through Ollama or LM Studio, or use cloud APIs. Open source under MIT.

Vellium brings character roleplay and fiction writing into a desktop AI app for macOS, Windows and Linux. It's for writers and people who want conversations with multiple characters, with control over their personas and fictional worlds. The app is open source under the MIT license and supports both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Roleplay chats can branch into alternate timelines, and you can edit messages or control automatic character turns. Character-card imports and LoreBooks let you bring existing characters and world information into a conversation. Writing projects organize chapters and scenes, with AI actions for summaries, rewrites and expansion. Vellium imports DOCX files and exports DOCX or Markdown.

You can connect local models through Ollama, LM Studio or KoboldCpp. Cloud connections include OpenRouter, Requesty and OpenAI-compatible APIs, which send model requests to the selected provider. Vellium keeps chats, characters, projects, settings and knowledge collections in a local SQLite database. Full Local Mode blocks configured public provider endpoints; local data isn't encrypted by default.

Knowledge collections supply retrieved reference material to chat and writing, with optional reranking to refine relevance. Live voice conversations support Whisper-compatible transcription and streaming speech, while Inochi2D avatars add lip sync and character expressions. MCP tools and local plugins extend the app's capabilities. A local web mode also lets you use the interface in a browser without opening the desktop shell.
