SpecShip

An AI coding agent workflow for Kiro that combines written requirements, test-first development and independent validation under the MIT license.

SpecShip is a workflow extension for Kiro that coordinates AI agents through planning, implementation, review and pull request preparation. It's for developers who want agent work checked against written requirements and tests.

  • Requirements before code: Define acceptance criteria, failure cases and a design, then prepare test cases before implementation; planning also uses web research to compare existing products.
  • Existing project analysis: Map the codebase and record behavior to preserve, project conventions and baseline tests before planning changes.
  • Test-first development: Require a failing test before production code, and block each implementation milestone until type checks, tests and the build pass.
  • Independent validation: Use separate agents to judge the implementation against its requirements, with fresh agents handling targeted fixes and writing regression tests first.
  • Guided or autonomous work: Pause for plan approval in the default guided mode, or carry the workflow through to a pull request in autonomous mode, with parallel execution for independent tasks.

SpecShip's workflow files live in your local Kiro setup. It uses superpowers and gstack companion skills, plus Playwright MCP for browser checks. Planning's web research requires internet access.

The project is open source under the MIT license. It's unofficial and hasn't undergone external security review. Generated code is sample or reference implementation that requires application security review before production use.
