Stella is a legal workspace for law firms and legal teams that want matter files, contract review and research in one place. Its AI agent answers questions about a matter with citations that open the relevant source passage.

  • Matter workspace: Keep documents, deadlines, drafting and structured reviews together, with search across matters and Word .docx editing.
  • AI review: Ask the agent about files and connected tools, check source previews, and approve actions within user and workspace permissions.
  • Contract analysis: Apply reusable playbooks as review checklists, extract structured answers from document sets into tables, and translate contracts into two-column bilingual documents.
  • Legal and company data: Bring case law and registry information into matters, including data from Companies House, SEC EDGAR and ARES, with anonymization for identifying details in chat and document review.
  • Office and external tools: Open Office documents in local apps and save edits back through the desktop app, or connect external tools to matters, documents and case law through the Stella MCP server.

Stella is free, open source software under Apache 2.0. You can self-host the workspace on your own infrastructure with Docker or use its hosted cloud service, and export data in standard formats. AI features use your own provider keys, so self-hosting the workspace doesn't mean model processing stays local. The desktop app keeps its clipboard history on your device.
