An AI background remover that runs on your device, works offline after model downloads and provides a self-hosted API.
unbagrnd removes image backgrounds locally for people who need cutouts without uploading pictures to a cloud service. It includes an app for individual images and folders, plus a self-hosted API for developers.
- Background removal models: Choose a model to balance speed and accuracy, including IS-Net general use through ONNX Runtime.
- Batch editing: Process a folder with a shared background color and drop shadow, retry failed files and export the results as a ZIP.
- Manual corrections: Erase or restore parts of a cutout with a brush and undo or redo your changes.
- Edge refinement: Shrink, grow, smooth or feather the outline with a live preview to adjust details such as hair and fur.
- Self-hosted API: Add background removal to your own applications with authenticated single-image and batch requests; an unreadable file doesn't stop the other images in a batch.
The app is free and open source under the MIT license and runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. Each model needs an internet connection for its first download, then processing works offline. The app doesn't require an account or send telemetry; images, filenames and metadata stay on your device.
API requests send images to your own server. The server processes uploads in memory and discards them without writing the images to disk or logging them. The API itself uses plain HTTP, so HTTPS requires a reverse proxy.
