codebase-memory-mcp is presented as an open source MCP server that gives a coding assistant a persistent graph of a repository. The speaker describes tree-sitter parsing for 158 languages and deeper semantic type resolution for nine, including Python, TypeScript, Go and Rust. The graph stores functions, types and call relationships locally so an agent can ask structural questions without repeatedly reading source files.
The comparison centers on a maintainer benchmark: five structural questions reportedly consumed about 412,000 tokens through grep and file-by-file exploration, versus roughly 3,400 through graph queries. The stated 99.2% reduction applies to that comparison; it does not establish equivalent savings for every coding task. The speaker also reports query latency below a millisecond.
For setup, the video describes a curl installer on Mac or Linux that downloads a static C binary and configures detected agents, including Claude Code, Cursor and Zed. Manual MCP configuration is another option. The server reportedly needs no API key, cloud account or separate database.
Its 14 MCP tools cover call tracing, architecture summaries, read-only graph queries and Git diff analysis. Semantic search uses a bundled embedding model. An optional localhost UI displays the graph in 3D. The release discussion identifies version 0.8.1 in June 2026 and attributes removal of the binary's last external dependency to a web-server rewrite.
