AX is Google's self-hosted AI agent orchestrator for teams running autonomous workloads on a Kubernetes cluster. It uses Agent Substrate to isolate agent execution and manages the workspaces and model settings each task needs. The project is open source under Apache 2.0.
Its focus is agents that accumulate state and need access to tools while they work. AX runs untrusted agent code in sandboxes with CPU and memory limits. You can pause a task and resume it with its saved state, rather than start the work again.
Workspaces bring together Git repositories, MCP servers and skill packages so agents have their working environment ready. Separate model definitions control which LLM the platform uses, with credentials held in Kubernetes secrets. The orchestration and sandbox execution run in your cluster; agents can call external model APIs and tool servers, so self-hosting AX doesn't make those services local.
For operators, AX provides live task status and access to a running sandbox for inspection. Its command-line interface follows Kubernetes conventions and works with kubectx, which makes it relevant to teams already managing workloads across clusters. Task, workspace and model definitions are declarative, so teams can describe the execution environment alongside the work to perform.
AX also supports custom runner images for teams that need a different agent execution environment.

OpenShell is a self-hosted runtime for teams running autonomous AI agents that need access to files, APIs and credentials. It runs agents in sandboxes with kernel-level isolation and explicit access policies. It's open source under Apache 2.0 and supports Linux and macOS on Apple Silicon, with Docker, Podman or host virtualization.

Helix is a paid, self-hosted platform for engineering teams running coding agents in parallel. Each task gets an isolated Linux desktop with an editor, browser and terminal, so agents can build and test applications while teammates watch or take control through their browsers.

Optio is a self-hosted AI agent orchestration platform for teams running coding and automation work on their own Kubernetes clusters or paired machines. Its pull request workflow follows a ticket through coding, CI, review, and merge, resuming the agent when checks fail, conflicts arise, or a reviewer asks for changes. When checks pass and approval arrives, it squash-merges the PR and closes the issue.

Agno is a Python framework and runtime for developers building customer-facing or internal AI agents. You can run its agent platform locally with Docker, on your own servers or in your cloud. The open-source framework uses the Apache 2.0 license, and the platform keeps sessions, memory, knowledge and traces in your database.
LLM Sandbox is a Python library for developers building AI agents and applications that need to execute model-generated code. It runs that code in isolated containers on infrastructure you control, with Docker and Podman backends or Kubernetes for cluster deployments. The project is open source under the MIT license.
Higress is a self-hosted AI gateway for developers and teams managing model APIs and the tools their AI agents call. It puts LLM traffic and MCP servers behind a shared entry point, with authentication, traffic controls and monitoring. The open-source edition uses the Apache 2.0 license and runs locally in Docker without registration. Alibaba Cloud also offers a fully managed gateway.
