Layla is an offline AI assistant for Android and iOS that runs language models on your phone. It's for people who want private everyday chat or an AI companion with custom characters, memory and roleplay. Local conversations stay encrypted on your device; optional cloud mode sends requests to your chosen hosted provider.
You can keep it as a simple chatbot, use it for planning and everyday tasks, or build scenarios with several characters and take part in the story yourself. Its memory retains your traits and preferences. Community characters run entirely on your device once downloaded, and you can create your own or share them anonymously.
Layla supports GGUF through llama.cpp, LiteRT-LM and PTE through ExecuTorch in the same app. You can bring your own GGUF models and adjust generation settings, which gives local LLM enthusiasts control over the model behind their assistant.
Image generation also runs locally. Mobile-optimised Stable Diffusion 1.5 can create images during conversations or from separate prompts. Layla accepts custom safetensors from Civit.ai and QNN image models that use your phone's NPU. Local text-to-speech works offline, while VRM avatars give characters a rendered 3D presence.
For more custom behaviour, Layla runs agents and Python on-device. Mini-apps and the Layla SDK can use its local models, memories, voices and images. Features that need internet access ask before sending data.
