Leon is a self-hosted personal AI assistant for Linux, macOS and Windows. The project focuses on the 2.0 Developer Preview on its develop branch. Its MIT-licensed runtime combines tools, context and memory with a local web interface.
The assistant can choose a mode for a task, follow deterministic native skills or plan actions step by step. Native skills connect actions to tools and functions; agent skills use SKILL.md workflows. Node.js and Python bridges connect those skills to tool runtimes.
Computer-use capabilities can operate desktop and browser interfaces, verify visual results and run locally or through Satellite. Layered memory keeps durable preferences, everyday context and recent discussions. Existing skills cover search, productivity, system utilities, media, coding and voice or audio workflows.
Leon supports local and remote AI providers. A local provider keeps inference on infrastructure you control; selecting a remote provider sends that work to its service. The README does not promise that every skill works offline.
The new documentation is still in progress. Older guides mainly describe the legacy architecture, which remains on the master branch for people seeking the more stable pre-agentic version. The current repository and its architecture documents are the references for the developer preview.
