LLPlayer is a media player for language learners who study through video and audio. It pairs playback with tools for reading dialogue, checking unfamiliar words and revisiting scenes.

  • Dual subtitles: Display original and translated subtitles together, with adjustable size and placement that keeps the two tracks from overlapping.
  • Local AI subtitles: Generate subtitles during playback with Whisper through whisper.cpp or faster-whisper, starting at any point in a video.
  • Subtitle translation: Translate dialogue through local models with Ollama or LM Studio, or use cloud services such as Google, Azure, DeepL, OpenAI and Claude; LLM translation can take subtitle context into account.
  • Dialogue search and word lookup: Search the subtitle sidebar, jump to matching scenes and click words for meanings or searches on a website of your choice.
  • Bitmap subtitle recognition: Convert image-based subtitles to text with Tesseract OCR or Microsoft OCR, and export recognized or generated subtitles as SRT files.

LLPlayer is free and open source under GPL-3.0, and runs on Windows 10 and 11 x64. Whisper subtitle generation supports CUDA, Vulkan and OpenVINO acceleration. It plays local media with embedded or external subtitles, plus online videos such as YouTube through yt-dlp. Online playback requires internet access, and cloud translation sends subtitle text to the chosen provider.
