A self-hosted MCP-to-OpenAPI proxy that connects tools to Open WebUI and other AI apps. Runs with Python or Docker under the MIT license.
mcpo makes MCP tools accessible to AI agents and apps that accept OpenAPI servers, including Open WebUI. It's a self-hosted proxy for developers who want to use existing MCP servers with those apps without writing a separate adapter for each tool. You can run it locally or on your own server with Python or Docker. It's open source under the MIT license.
The proxy turns MCP tool calls into HTTP endpoints and generates OpenAPI schemas and interactive documentation. Apps can use those schemas to discover the available tools, while developers can inspect and test calls through a browser. It supports local MCP servers that communicate over stdio, plus servers that use SSE or Streamable HTTP.
A single instance can expose multiple MCP servers, each with its own route, schema and documentation. mcpo accepts the Claude Desktop configuration format, lets you disable individual tools, and can reload server configuration without downtime. It also supports deployment behind a reverse proxy under a URL subpath.
API key protection controls access to the proxy. For Streamable HTTP servers that require OAuth 2.1, mcpo supports authorization and client registration, with token storage on disk or in memory. The proxy runs on hardware you control; connected MCP servers can be local or remote, so tool requests go to the server you choose.
