RisuAI

RisuAI is an open-source AI roleplay client for people who want to create characters, build fictional worlds and chat with several characters together. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and in a browser. You can also host the web app yourself with Docker.

Its character tools go beyond a text conversation. Emotion images show a character's expression, while embedded images, audio and video can appear in chats or backgrounds. RisuRealm is a separate sharing site where people publish characters and worlds for others to use.

Lorebooks hold world information and character knowledge. Long-term memory systems compress conversation history and manage context to help sustain longer stories. Custom prompt templates give experienced users control over how characters respond, including conditional prompts and variables.

RisuAI works with OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, DeepInfra, OpenRouter and Ooba backends, and lets you switch between providers. The client can run on your own hardware, but using a cloud provider sends chat requests to that service. Self-hosting the interface doesn't make those services local.

Automatic translation covers both incoming and outgoing text, and text-to-speech can read replies aloud. Plugins can add features and providers; regex scripts can alter model output and support custom chat displays. The code is available under GPL-3.0.
