AIRI is a self-hosted AI companion for people who want a virtual character they can talk to and play games with. Inspired by Neuro-sama, it combines real-time voice conversation with game integrations for Minecraft and Factorio. The project is in early development; Factorio support is a work in progress with a proof of concept. It's open source under the MIT license.

You can use it in a modern browser or as a desktop app on macOS and Windows. Its progressive web app also supports mobile devices. The browser interface makes it accessible across devices, while the desktop app can use native NVIDIA CUDA and Apple Metal acceleration through Hugging Face's Candle project.

The model connection is your choice. AIRI supports Ollama, vLLM and SGLang for locally hosted models, alongside cloud providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini. It also connects to OpenRouter. Self-hosting the companion doesn't make a cloud model local: when you choose a cloud provider, that service handles the model requests.

The focus is an interactive character, with voice and game participation as central capabilities. Discord voice connections are also supported through features that extend beyond browser technologies. AIRI uses WebGPU and WebAudio alongside WebAssembly for its browser experience, with web technologies handling graphics, layout and animation in the desktop app as well.
