Thuki
A local AI assistant floats above Mac apps with selected-text and screen context, offline chat on Apple Silicon, and optional web search.

Thuki is a floating AI assistant for Mac users who want help with the text or screen they're already viewing. It appears above other apps, including fullscreen windows, and automatically brings selected text into the conversation.
- Text assistance: Explain passages, rewrite drafts, translate text and summarize articles using the current selection as context.
- Images and screen context: Attach images or capture your desktop for a vision-capable model, with on-device OCR for extracting text from images.
- Local model choice: Run GGUF models such as Llama, Gemma and Qwen through the bundled llama.cpp engine, or use Ollama as an optional provider.
- Web search: A local model decides when to look up fresh information, then sends the query directly to a search provider; answers include citations and a lookup trace.
- Extended reasoning: Let the model work through a question before presenting its answer.
Thuki requires macOS 13.4 or later and Apple Silicon, using the Mac's built-in GPU. Intel Macs aren't supported. It's free and open source under Apache 2.0, with no account required.
Ordinary chat works offline after downloading a model. Web search requires internet access, and automatic search is enabled by default but can be disabled. Conversations stay in a local SQLite database; the app has no cloud backend or telemetry.
The project is in maintenance mode. New feature development has stopped, while bug fixes, security fixes and compatibility updates continue.
