RecurseChat is a paid Mac app for people who want to chat with AI and ask questions about their files on their own computer. It runs local LLMs without an internet connection or a server, keeping local conversations on the device. The same app also connects to Claude and ChatGPT, so you can choose local processing or a cloud provider.

File chat covers PDFs, Markdown, and text files. It uses on-device embeddings and vector search to find relevant content for answers, keeping those files on your Mac. That makes it a fit for readers who want AI help with personal documents without uploading them to a remote service.

Model support includes GGUF files and models from Hugging Face. You can also connect to OpenAI-compatible endpoints, giving you a choice of backends within the same chat interface. The offline and device-only privacy claims apply to local use; Claude and ChatGPT use cloud services.

A floating chat window stays above other windows and can be summoned from any app, so you can keep a conversation available alongside your work. If you already have conversations in ChatGPT, you can import that history and continue them with local AI. RecurseChat is available through the Mac App Store, and the app states that it collects no data.
