Witsy is an AGPL-3.0 desktop AI assistant for macOS, Windows and Linux that connects MCP tools to local and cloud models. It's for people who want document chat, writing help and voice features in one app, with a choice of where their models run.

Ollama lets you run models locally, and Witsy also supports LM Studio. Cloud connections include OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, DeepSeek and providers with an OpenAI-compatible API. Those services require your own API keys and process requests outside your machine. Witsy keeps conversation history locally, but document chat sends relevant passages to whichever model you select.

MCP support lets models use connected tools across providers. Built-in plugins can run Python code or search the web, while specialized prompts and a long-term memory plugin shape responses for recurring work. Document chat searches your local files for context, with embeddings supplied by Ollama or OpenAI.

For writing, the scratchpad supports interactive editing with a model. Prompt Anywhere inserts generated text into other applications, and custom AI commands act on selected text. Witsy also handles image analysis, image and video generation, dictation and voice conversations through supported backends. Local Whisper is an option for transcription.

A terminal chat interface shares the desktop app's model settings. A local HTTP API gives other applications access to chat and assistant features, and agent webhooks let external automation trigger agent runs.
