Vyact

Vyact is an open source desktop workspace for people who want to use a local LLM with their documents, email and code. It runs on Apple Silicon Macs, Windows and Linux x64 under the AGPL-3.0 license. Intel Macs aren't supported.

Document chat includes supporting passages you can check against the original. Knowledge collections keep frequently used files searchable, and rich-text memos can join that knowledge base. For code work, Vyact can search and edit a project folder, run checks, and let you review or undo tracked changes. Projects group conversations with working instructions and summaries of decisions and action items.

Vyact supports GGUF models through llama.cpp and MLX models on Apple Silicon. Memory estimates help you judge which models fit your computer, while benchmarks compare speed with different settings. Linux includes a CPU runtime. Public models don't need an API key; restricted Hugging Face models require an authorized account.

Optional Google and Microsoft connections bring Gmail, Outlook, Drive, OneDrive and calendars into the workspace. They require account setup and permissions. A Chrome extension uses the running desktop app for page questions, writing corrections, translation and browser tasks. You can preview writing changes before applying them.

With a managed local model, AI chat context stays on your computer. Initial downloads require internet access. You can also use OpenAI, Gemini, Claude or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint; external providers receive the context needed for each request. Connected email and cloud-file services communicate with their own servers. MCP connections add local or remote tools with execution approvals, and an OpenAI-compatible API exposes the active local model to other apps.
