Kerlig is a paid AI writing assistant for Mac that works with text in the apps you already use. It's aimed at people writing client emails, Slack replies and Jira tickets who want help editing and drafting without moving everything into a browser chat. It runs on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs with macOS 12 or later.
You can choose local models through Apple Foundation Models, Ollama or LM Studio, or connect cloud providers with your own API keys. Cloud options include OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, Groq and OpenRouter. When you use a cloud provider, your messages go directly to that provider; Kerlig stores and encrypts them on your Mac.
Its writing tools cover spelling and grammar, rewriting, shortening and summaries. Tone personalization helps tailor replies to different situations, while custom actions let you save prompts for recurring work. Global hotkeys bring those actions into other apps, and background actions can run without opening the chat interface.
For work beyond editing, Kerlig can analyze attachments and answer questions about documents, webpages, ebooks and images. Agentic Mode can read your screen and use your apps. MCP connections extend that access to services such as Notion, Linear, Slack and GitHub.
The chat interface supports prompt editing, response regeneration and saved conversations. Deep Research uses reasoning models and online information for multi-step research, with cited links you can open in your browser.
