BoltAI is a native Mac app for people who want local LLMs and cloud AI services in the same workspace. It runs on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs and suits coding, writing, research and document analysis. The interface uses SwiftUI and AppKit.
Local models run on your machine through Ollama or LM Studio, and local features work fully offline. Cloud requests go directly to your chosen provider using your own API keys. Supported services include OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral, Azure OpenAI and Amazon Bedrock. Codex CLI and Claude Code integrations also let you use your ChatGPT or Claude subscriptions.
Chats stay on your Mac by default. BoltAI doesn't use your content for training, and you can encrypt API keys with your own passphrase. Optional cloud sync sends data off the device, with encryption in transit and at rest.
Projects keep related work together, while branching chats let you explore a different answer without losing the original thread. You can compare models side by side in multi-agent chats, save reusable prompts, and create agents with their own instructions, documents and tools. Model controls let you adjust response behavior for different tasks.
A global shortcut opens a chat overlay over other apps. Screenshot analysis, dictation and inline text editing bring AI into the task you're working on. Vision-enabled models can analyze PDFs, screenshots and research documents; agents can use code execution and connect to local or remote MCP servers.
