This tutorial connects FreeCAD to a local LLM through Robust MCP Bridge, Ollama and Open WebUI. The presenter uses a Z400 workstation with a graphics card and accesses it remotely over SSH. He says the model runs on his own hardware and that nothing leaves his house.
The demonstration creates a document and a 50 × 30 × 15 mm box through chat. A request to hollow the box with 2 mm walls is less successful: the model first gives instructions without executing them, then creates another document and two boxes that are not concentric. These failures make the limits of the experiment concrete. The bridge exposes software functions for the model to call, rather than asking it to write a macro.
The setup section covers a Python virtual environment on Linux Mint, the FreeCAD Robust MCP and MCPO packages, and manual workbench installation for FreeCAD 1.1. The presenter says the workbench is unavailable through Addon Manager. MCPO exposes the connection on port 8200, and Open WebUI adds it through its tool server settings.
The walkthrough uses a local Qwen model and stresses tool-calling support and expects stronger results with Claude Code, but provides no controlled comparison. He describes the local setup as experimental rather than ready for everyday use.
