This tutorial uses TRELLIS.2, the newer model in Microsoft’s TRELLIS family, and Pixal3D in ComfyUI to generate 3D assets locally. The PixelArtistry Watertight Meshes package includes an installer and four workflows covering mesh generation, a separate 2K preset, low-poly assets with baked textures, and texturing an existing mesh.
The setup requires ComfyUI Easy Install with VisualBruno's TRELLIS.2 nodes and Blender. The presenter specifies Windows 10 or 11 and an NVIDIA RTX 20 series GPU or newer. He says Linux can work with manual installation. He recommends 32GB of system RAM and a clean Blender install after encountering add-on conflicts. The installer checks Python 3.12, torch 2.8 and CUDA 12.8, downloads models and tests the GPU. His resolution guide recommends 1024 for 6GB VRAM, 1536 for 8GB and 2K for 16GB or more.
The walkthrough covers reconstruction, decimation and vertex merging, then checks an example with Blender's 3D Print Toolbox. The game-ready workflow bakes high-poly detail and textures onto a lower-poly mesh; the presenter typically targets 20,000 to 30,000 triangles for characters.
Results still need inspection. Examples have facial errors, uneven textures and awkward orientation. Some low-poly meshes need vertices merged by distance to resolve non-manifold edges. For texturing an existing GLB, the presenter specifies TRELLIS.2 because Pixal3D produces black textures in this workflow.
