agentmemory is a self-hosted memory server for developers who want their coding agents to retain project decisions, past fixes and preferences across sessions. It captures activity through agent hooks and retrieves relevant context for later work. Multiple agents can share the same memory, so switching between Claude Code, Cursor and Codex CLI doesn't mean starting with an empty history.
It runs on macOS, Linux and Windows, with Docker also supported. The project is open source under Apache 2.0. Memory state stays in your local runtime by default, and basic keyword recall works without an API key. Optional on-device semantic search uses Xenova/all-MiniLM-L6-v2, which needs an initial download before inference runs locally. Connecting an LLM provider enables additional processing; LLM-written compression is optional and must be enabled separately.
Search combines keyword matching with vector retrieval when embeddings are available. It can also use relationships in a knowledge graph. Memories retain their source history, while superseded versions leave search results. Lifecycle features include confidence scoring, contradiction handling and automatic removal of stale memories. Shared and isolated agent scopes let you control which context each agent recalls.
A local browser viewer shows captured activity and lets you replay sessions, including prompts, tool calls and responses. You can also import older Claude Code transcripts for search and replay. MCP and REST access extend compatibility to Gemini CLI, OpenCode and other clients.
Native Windows setup requires manually installing the pinned iii-engine executable. WSL2 or Docker Desktop provide alternative Windows paths.

Claude Mem gives coding assistants persistent project memory, so developers don't have to explain earlier decisions each time a session starts. It records agent activity, turns it into structured observations and summaries, and brings relevant context into later sessions. The free, open source engine runs on your machine under the Apache 2.0 license and doesn't require an account.

Codebase Memory MCP gives AI coding agents a persistent map of a repository's structure, so they can answer questions about dependencies and call chains without repeatedly reading whole files. It's for developers using Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor or other MCP-compatible clients who want their agents to spend less context on code exploration.

ai-memory keeps project knowledge on a server you control so developers can switch coding assistants or machines without losing context. It connects Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and OpenCode to shared memory, including unfinished work, failed approaches and open questions.
deja-vu gives coding assistants a shared memory of work already recorded on your machine. It searches sessions from before you installed it, so developers can recover an old fix or carry context between Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor and opencode without starting a separate collection of notes.
gptme is a self-hosted AI agent that works directly in your terminal, with access to your files and installed tools. It's for developers who want a coding assistant in their own environment, and people who want an agent for data analysis or other knowledge work. The software is free under the MIT license and doesn't require a gptme account.
GrapeRoot is a local MCP tool for developers who want their AI coding assistant to understand a project's structure without repeatedly searching through files. It builds a graph of the codebase and supplies relevant code before each prompt reaches the assistant. It runs on macOS, Linux and Windows.
