Chatless is a desktop AI chat client for people who want to use local models and cloud services in the same app, with conversation history stored on their own computer. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, including Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. The app is free and open source under the MIT license.

For local LLM use, it connects to Ollama and LM Studio. Cloud connections include OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek and Gemini. Those services require your own API keys and may charge for usage. Chatless stores chats and settings locally and doesn't collect or upload data itself, but when you choose a cloud provider, it sends the conversation content to that provider.

Document support goes beyond attaching files to a chat. Chatless can parse PDF, Word and Markdown files into a local knowledge base, then retrieve relevant passages for answers about your documents. It also supports image analysis through vision models, so image understanding depends on the model you use.

MCP integration lets the chat client work with external tools. A prompt library keeps frequently used prompts available for reuse, and WebDAV support can sync those prompts between devices. Built with Tauri and Next.js, Chatless uses a lightweight desktop app design with quick startup.
