5ire is a free desktop AI assistant that combines chat, a local document knowledge base and MCP tools. It runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, with Mac downloads for Apple Silicon and Intel. It's for people who want to use their own documents and external tools alongside conversations with local or cloud models.
Ollama provides the connection to a local LLM. Cloud options include OpenAI, Azure, Anthropic, Google, Mistral and DeepSeek. The desktop app and document processing run locally; choosing a cloud provider sends model requests to that service.
The knowledge base uses bge-m3 to create multilingual document embeddings on your machine and stores them locally for retrieval during chats. It accepts Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, PDFs, plain text and CSV files. This gives people working with a mix of office files a way to bring that material into AI conversations.
MCP support lets connected models use tools supplied by servers, including access to files, system information, databases and remote data. A community directory helps users find MCP servers, and 5ire supports one-click server installation. The tool runtime requires Python, Node.js and uv.
For repeated tasks, the prompt library keeps reusable prompts with variables. Keyword search covers all conversations, while bookmarks preserve saved content even after the original messages are deleted. Usage analytics tracks API consumption and spending.
The community source uses a modified Apache 2.0 license with additional branding, redistribution and commercial-use conditions.
