CoWork OS is a local-first AI agent desktop for developers and people who work with documents, research and email. It brings agent tasks, files, terminals and browser work into one workspace, with visible actions and approval controls. The app is open source under the MIT license, and runs on macOS and Windows.
You choose the model provider without replacing the workspace or its tools. Ollama supports local models, and MLX-LM provides another local route on Apple Silicon. Cloud choices include ChatGPT sign-in, Claude, OpenAI API, Gemini, OpenRouter and Groq. Mixture of Agents can combine models, while fallback routes let tasks use an alternative provider.
Generated documents, editable spreadsheets, presentations and web pages open beside the agent for review and follow-up edits. For coding work, built-in terminal tabs sit alongside a visible browser that can test responsive layouts, take screenshots and expose console or network problems. A terminal interface shares the desktop's local settings and runtime.
Automation Studio supports visual workflows with branches, variables and approvals. Email tools handle inbox search, triage and drafts, as well as sending and replying. MCP connectors and skills extend the tasks agents can perform.
Workspace state and encrypted credentials stay on your machine. Cloud models and connected services receive the data required for the tasks you give them. Access profiles control filesystem and network access, sandboxing and approval requirements.

Halo puts Claude Code and Codex in a visual desktop app for people who want AI agents to work with files, write code and handle recurring tasks. It runs on macOS, including Intel and Apple Silicon, Windows and Linux. The desktop app doesn't require a separate backend server. Model access uses Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek or compatible APIs, so running the app locally doesn't make those services offline.
