Selene is an MIT-licensed desktop app for macOS and Windows that combines AI agents with coding, browser tasks and personal assistants. It supports fully offline use with local models, plus connections to WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack and Discord for interacting with agents through messaging apps.
You can choose local or cloud processing separately for chat, embeddings, voice and image generation. Ollama supports local LLM use, while vLLM connects to self-hosted inference. Cloud choices include Claude, OpenAI and OpenRouter. With local processing, data stays on your device; choosing cloud providers sends the relevant work to those services.
For coding, Selene includes Git changes and pull requests, with hooks for checks after agent edits. Its design workspace generates React or HTML components, previews them in an isolated sandbox and applies targeted edits. Agents can also operate an embedded Chromium browser through Playwright, replay browser sessions and inspect your screen.
Personal assistants can use synced folders, suggest memories for you to approve and carry out scheduled tasks. Results can stay in chat or go to a connected messaging channel, where Selene also transcribes voice notes. Image generation works locally or through cloud providers, with support for reference images and ComfyUI workflows.
Reusable skills, plugins and MCP connections extend what agents can do. Agents can delegate work to parallel sub-agents, and Selene retrieves relevant context and loads tools on demand to reduce how much material reaches the model.

It runs on macOS, including Intel and Apple Silicon, Windows and Linux. The desktop app doesn't require a separate backend server. Model access uses Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek or compatible APIs, so running the app locally doesn't make those services offline.
