Coze Studio is a self-hosted AI agent development platform for developers and teams building assistants and AI apps through visual, low-code tools. It brings agent creation, debugging and publishing into one workspace, with workflows for defining business logic. The open-source edition uses the Apache 2.0 license and shares its core engine with the commercial Coze Development Platform.
Agents can draw on knowledge bases through retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), use plugins to access tools, and use memory from a person's conversation history to inform later responses. You can manage databases alongside those resources and reuse workflows in agents or standalone apps. App templates provide a starting point for projects that don't need a custom build from scratch.
Coze Studio manages model services and supports integrations with OpenAI and Volcengine. The development platform runs on your own server; those integrations use external model services, so self-hosting the platform doesn't mean all AI processing stays on your hardware. The hosted Coze service is a separate offering, and some capabilities are limited to the commercial version.
For teams adding an assistant to an existing product, APIs support conversations and chats, while the Chat SDK embeds agents or apps in their own applications. A Go backend and React with TypeScript frontend give developers access to the application code, and its microservices architecture supports customization for business needs.
