Hovor
A Mac dictation app that runs Parakeet or Whisper on Apple Silicon. Requires a Hovor account; cloud dictation and tone formatting need internet access.

Hovor is a dictation app for people who want to speak text into their Mac apps and choose between local speech recognition and a cloud service. On supported Apple Silicon Macs, it runs downloaded Parakeet or Whisper models on the device, so on-device transcription happens on your Mac.
A global keyboard shortcut starts and stops dictation, and Hovor pastes the result into the app you're using. That makes it useful for writing across apps without moving your text out of a separate transcription window. The shortcut requires macOS Accessibility permission.
Its offline support is partial. Hovor requires an account and sign-in, even if you intend to use on-device recognition. Hovor Cloud provides an alternative for dictation, while tone formatting runs through the cloud or your own provider key and needs an internet connection. Choosing local speech recognition therefore doesn't make every feature local.
Hovor targets Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 15 or later. A legacy Intel download remains available, but those builds no longer receive updates. Hovor is proprietary software; feature availability depends on the licence. It also supports on-device meeting recording and speaker-labelled transcripts.
