LangGraph is a free, MIT-licensed Python framework for developers building AI agents that need to keep state and handle complex tasks. It gives teams control over how an agent moves between steps, where people can intervene, and what happens when a long-running task is interrupted.
Its workflows can include a single agent, multiple agents, or agents arranged in a hierarchy. Developers can set checks that let a person inspect, change, or approve an agent's actions. Durable execution preserves progress through failures so an agent can resume its work. Memory keeps conversation context across sessions, while token-by-token streaming lets an application show responses as they arrive.
The framework works with any model provider, so it doesn't require a particular model backend. It's a library for building an agent application, rather than a ready-made chat interface or local LLM runner. A separate JavaScript and TypeScript library, LangGraph.js, serves developers working in those languages. LangSmith is a separate platform for tracing agent decisions, evaluating changes, and deploying agents.

Mastra is a TypeScript framework for developers building AI agents and applications on their own servers or inside existing web apps. Its server runs locally or as a standalone deployment; Mastra Cloud provides a hosted alternative. Model routing connects to providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Gemini, so running the framework locally doesn't keep those model requests on your machine.

Pydantic AI is a Python SDK for developers building AI agents into their own applications. Its main draw is Pydantic validation across agent tools and results, so an agent can return structured data that application code can check and use. The SDK is MIT licensed.

LlamaIndex is an MIT-licensed Python framework for developers building AI agents and apps that answer questions using their own data. It connects documents and other sources to language models, then helps an app find the relevant material when a user asks something. Its open source framework can work with models served through Ollama.

Vercel AI SDK is a TypeScript library for developers building chatbots, generative interfaces, and AI agents. It gives an application one way to work with models from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, so teams can change providers without rebuilding the parts of their app that handle responses. It suits developers who want control over the application they build while choosing how it connects to model services.
