LocalScribe
An offline meeting transcription app for Windows 11 x64 that uses local Whisper models, separates both sides of calls and preserves original transcripts.
LocalScribe records online meetings and turns them into timestamped transcripts on your PC. It's for people who need private meeting records they can review and correct while retaining the original text and audio.
- Live meeting transcripts: It captures your microphone and remote audio separately, labels your side and the remote side, and displays text within seconds of speech.
- Speaker separation: Optional speaker detection distinguishes voices within either recording, with names you review and confirm rather than automatic identification.
- Review and correction: Audio playback follows the transcript, and corrections sit over the original text; exports include transcription details and hashes that help check file integrity.
- Imported recordings: It transcribes existing audio and video files, while related sessions can share a participant roster and vocabulary.
LocalScribe is free and open source under the MIT license. It runs on Windows 11 x64; there's no ARM64 package. Recording and Whisper transcription work offline, with audio and transcripts stored locally and no account or telemetry. A GPU is optional: Whisper can use NVIDIA CUDA, Vulkan or CPU. Live transcription uses a small model to keep pace with speech, while imports and re-transcription can use larger models.
For Microsoft Teams and browser calls, remote capture uses all system audio, so sounds from other applications may enter the recording. Recording starts manually. Each session remains a folder of audio, JSON and Markdown files, and the app retains audio without automatic expiry.
