Newelle
A Linux AI assistant that runs models offline through Ollama or Llama.cpp, with document search, local voice tools and MCP support.

Newelle is a Linux desktop AI assistant for people who want to chat with local models and use AI to work with documents and files. It also supports external model providers.
- Document search and memory: Ask questions about your documents using vector and keyword search, and let the assistant recall details from earlier conversations.
- Files and commands: Run shell commands in chat or edit code and text in the built-in editor. File permissions let you limit what the assistant can read or change.
- Voice and images: Dictate with local Whisper, use Kokoro for speech output, or submit images for analysis by compatible models. Call mode supports live conversations with AI models.
- Tools and extensions: Connect external tools and databases through MCP, or add capabilities with Python extensions and sidebar mini apps.
- Web and chat controls: Search with DuckDuckGo or read websites when you need online information. Profiles keep model preferences separate, while chat branching lets you try alternative replies.
Newelle is free, open-source software under the GPL-3.0 license. Ollama and Llama.cpp can run models offline on your machine; external model providers and web features require a connection. The Flathub build runs in a sandbox that limits its access to files and commands.
