Alpaca
A local AI chat client for Ollama models that works offline after download and can also connect to cloud models through OpenAI-compatible APIs.
Alpaca is an open source AI chat client for people who want to run models on their own device. It uses Ollama to download and manage local models, then lets you chat without an internet connection. Conversations stay on your device in SQLite files, and local models have no direct internet access.
You can bring different models into the same conversation, which is useful when a question calls for a different kind of answer. Alpaca also supports questions about images and documents, including PDFs and plain text files. For writing or roleplay, you can make a custom persona with instructions and a profile picture. Chats can be saved across multiple conversations, imported or exported, and edited when you want to revise an earlier message.
The local setup has no cloud dependency once the models are downloaded. Alpaca can also connect to cloud-hosted models through OpenAI-compatible APIs using your own API key; those conversations depend on the external provider. The app includes code highlighting for model responses and is licensed under GPL-3.0.
