Nextcloud Assistant brings AI into Nextcloud Hub's documents, email, chat and calendar. It's for teams that want help with shared work while choosing where AI processing happens. With an on-premises model, data stays on your server. The app is open source under AGPL-3.0.
You choose the backend. It supports local LLMs and LocalAI, alongside cloud services such as OpenAI, Gemini, IONOS and OVHcloud. Local processing keeps the workload on your infrastructure; choosing a hosted provider sends AI tasks to that service. The available capabilities depend on the providers connected to Nextcloud.
The assistant can summarize email threads and Talk conversations, suggest replies, rewrite documents and translate text. It can use existing files as examples of tone and structure, and generate documents, spreadsheets, presentations and PDFs. Context Chat answers questions about your files, with scope controls that let you restrict it to a folder or an individual document.
Its AI agent features can gather information across Hub apps, create Calendar events, and read or send Talk messages. Scheduled tasks and recurring prompts support briefings and other repeated work. Chat memories carry context between conversations, while reusable skills capture processes with several steps.
For media tasks, it can answer questions about images, extract their text with OCR, and translate or summarize that text. Image generation works through providers including Stable Diffusion and OpenAI/LocalAI. Audio transcription accepts recordings and uploaded files, with Local Whisper among the supported providers.
