OpenDev

An open-source coding agent runs parallel agents with separate model choices on macOS, Linux and Windows, with offline support for local LLM backends.

OpenDev is an AI coding agent for developers who want concurrent work across a codebase and control over which models handle each task. It can plan changes, execute them and iterate autonomously, with a terminal interface and a browser interface for monitoring work.

  • Parallel agents: Assign separate parts of a codebase or refactor to agents with their own model, context and tools, then collect their results within a session.
  • Models by role: Choose different models for coding, reasoning, context summarization, output review and image processing, including models from different providers within the same project.
  • Local or cloud inference: Use OpenAI-compatible endpoints from Ollama, LM Studio or llama-server, or connect to providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter and Azure OpenAI.
  • Remote sessions and tools: Access sessions through the browser interface and connect agents to external tools and data sources through MCP.

OpenDev is open source under the MIT license and runs on macOS, Linux and Windows. Supported machines include Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, x86_64 and ARM64 Linux systems, and x86_64 Windows PCs. Its Rust runtime ships as a single binary.

Fully offline operation requires a local model endpoint and disabled remote model discovery. Model requests stay local in that setup; cloud model connections send requests to the selected provider.
