Photoview is a self-hosted photo gallery for photographers and households who keep their pictures on a personal server or NAS. It turns existing folders into browser-based albums and automatically scans for added photos and videos. Your folder structure determines how the library appears, so you can keep organizing files through Samba, FTP or Nextcloud. Your media stays on your server.
Photography features include RAW support through Darktable and a sidebar with EXIF metadata. Photos with location coordinates appear on a map, where pictures taken in the same place are grouped together. Face recognition detects people and groups photos of the same person.
Photoview generates thumbnails for browsing large collections and loads pictures as they come into view. Full-screen viewing displays a thumbnail while the high-resolution image loads. It also supports common video formats and uses FFmpeg to prepare videos for browser playback, with optional hardware acceleration.
Each user has a login and access to their own media directory. You can share an album, photo or video through a public link, with optional password protection, so recipients don't need an account.
The software is free and open source under AGPL-3.0. It runs through Docker and on Linux platforms, including NAS systems such as Unraid and TrueNAS. ARM support also lets it run on devices such as the Raspberry Pi.
