PicApport

PicApport is a self-hosted photo server for families and businesses that want a searchable media archive on their own hardware. Its AI tagging add-on recognizes image content without sending photos to a cloud service and saves the resulting tags in image metadata. The server runs on Windows, Linux or macOS, with a Docker image available, and you access the gallery through a browser.

The archive can hold photos, videos and PDFs, with plugins extending support to camera RAW files and other formats. Search covers tags and ratings as well as dates, camera models and lens information. Saved searches form dynamic collections, while the map lets you browse photos by location or select images within an area.

You can edit metadata across multiple photos, including titles, keywords, people and GPS coordinates. OpenStreetMap supplies place names and points of interest for automatic location tagging. Each user can keep private tags, and role permissions control access to content and editing features. Shared selections can have links that expire; sharing outside your network requires an internet-accessible server.

The PhotoSync app for Android and iOS sends mobile photos directly to your server, with optional automatic transfers and event-based titles and tags. Browser collections remain viewable without a server connection. WebDAV access and a web API let other clients and custom applications manage photos and metadata.
