Lap
A local photo manager searches and organizes photos with on-device AI, duplicate comparison, and offline browsing on macOS, Windows, and Linux.

Lap is a desktop photo manager for family albums, photographers, and large personal libraries. It works with photos in your existing folders and uses local AI to help you find images without uploading them to a cloud photo service.
- AI search and people: Find photos with a text description or a similar image, and name people to browse photos grouped by face.
- Duplicate cleanup and review: Compare duplicates and similar shots, review images side by side, and use ratings, picks, rejects, and batch renaming to sort through a shoot.
- Folders and albums: Organize files through existing folders, collections, tags, and rule-based Smart Albums, or browse by date and location using calendar and map views.
- RAW and motion photos: View RAW files alongside paired JPEG or HEIC images, keep linked files together during file operations, and play supported Apple Live Photos and Google Motion Photos.
- Editing and collages: Crop, straighten, resize, and make basic image adjustments, or arrange selected photos into a collage.
Lap is free and open source under GPL-3.0, with apps for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Your library and AI processing stay on your machine, and no cloud account or upload is required. Cached thumbnails and metadata let you browse albums even when their drive is disconnected.
Tags, ratings, collections, and face data live in Lap's local catalog rather than in the original files or metadata sidecars. That organization doesn't automatically travel with exported files or appear in other photo apps.
