Reins is an open-source chat app for people using self-hosted LLMs through Ollama. It runs on iOS, Android, macOS, Linux and Windows, giving Ollama users a mobile and desktop interface for experimenting with models. Reins is the client; Ollama provides the model backend.
Each conversation has its own system prompt, model and generation settings. That lets you keep chats with different instructions and response behavior rather than apply the same setup everywhere. You can also switch models within an existing conversation without interrupting the chat, which is useful when trying different models against the same discussion.
You can edit messages and regenerate responses to explore how changes to a prompt affect the output. Reins also lets you save system and chat prompts as new models, so a custom setup can become something you reuse. Its settings include controls over response randomness and how much context a model uses.
The app supports sending and receiving images within chats, manages multiple conversations, and displays responses progressively as they arrive. It uses the GPL-3.0 license.
