This tutorial shows how to give AnythingLLM access to a folder so a local LLM can work with files on the computer. The speaker distinguishes this workflow from uploading documents to a workspace as context. The demo uses a folder in Downloads containing images and a documents subfolder.
Setup starts in Settings under Agent Skills. The speaker enables File System Access, selects permissions for reading and modifying files, then adds the target folder through the permissions menu. In their testing, access did not work immediately, so they recommend fully closing the app, checking the system tray, and relaunching it. They then create a workspace and paste the folder path into a question asking whether the model can access it. LM Studio supplies the local model, described as having 9 billion parameters and vision capabilities.
The file tasks expose some limits. The model initially declines to inspect an image and later confuses its location with the documents subfolder. After further prompts, it describes the car and gives the image a more descriptive filename. The speaker explains that the rename uses a move operation within the same folder. A second task removes a table of contents from a Markdown document, and the speaker checks the result. Their practical advice is to provide exact paths and filenames and expect to correct tool calls when the model chooses the wrong location.
