Frigate 0.18 beta adds UI configuration management to the open source NVR. The walkthrough covers global settings, camera overrides, pending edits and restart indicators. Manual YAML configuration remains available, and the speaker notes that users still need to understand the settings they change.
Profiles apply named overrides to camera settings and switch without a restart. The speaker demonstrates day and night profiles that change which car detections appear in review, then explains how his alarm system selects profiles through MQTT. Active profiles persist across restarts.
The GenAI section covers multiple providers, a dedicated llama.cpp provider and separate roles for chat, descriptions and embeddings. Chat returns a dog detection with a snapshot when the speaker asks about recent animal activity. A base URL supports self-hosted providers, but he has no local provider setup to demonstrate, and model refresh attempts fail. He describes object detection as local AI processing on the user's hardware; external GenAI can send data elsewhere.
Motion previews mark activity within camera frames. Region-based motion search examines saved recordings on demand, so longer time ranges take longer to process. Debug replay reruns detection on recorded clips. Before upgrading, the speaker recommends backing up the configuration and database.
