This walkthrough introduces OpenCode as an open source coding assistant for the terminal, IDE and desktop. The speaker covers installation with curl, npm, brew or paru, points to downloads for Mac, Windows and Linux, and explains where to find the VS Code extension instructions.
The comparison with Claude Code centers on the speaker's own usage. He reports repeatedly hitting Claude Code limits and prefers OpenCode's model choices. He also reviews the Go and Zen plans and their usage screens, though his explanation of which models require payment is inconsistent. These observations do not establish a universal difference in cost or rate limits.
The model connection tutorial creates an OpenRouter API key and enters it into OpenCode. The speaker then selects Gemma 4, but the request returns a rate-limit error. That failure also interrupts his attempt to run the SEO GEO skill, so he switches models and starts the command again. He says his installed skills are available across OpenCode, Claude Code and Gemini.
The closing section points to documentation for IDE setup, customization and the SDK. Although the client runs on the user's computer, the demonstrated model connection uses OpenRouter. The tutorial does not demonstrate how to run models locally or establish offline operation.
